Add Your First Domain

A domain is a website you want to monitor, such as example.com or staging.example.com. Adding one gives it its own overview, issues list, history and settings.

Before You Start

• Your subscription or free trial must be active. See Start your free trial.
• You need the Owner or Admin role.
• Your plan must have a free domain slot. The Billing page shows how many are in use.

Add the Domain

Open Your Domains and select Add Domain. A short setup walks you through four steps.

1. Indexing

Enter the website address, for example example.com. If you know it, also enter your XML sitemap, such as https://example.com/sitemap.xml. It is optional, but it helps AccessBell find every page on a large site. Not sure where it is? Try /sitemap.xml or /sitemap_index.xml, or look for a Sitemap: line in /robots.txt.

AccessBell starts finding your pages in the background while you finish the setup.

2. Configure Settings

Choose the WCAG version and level to test against. WCAG 2.2 Level AA is the current recommendation. Choose the devices to test (desktop, mobile or both) and whether to include subdomains. You can change these later in Scan settings.

3. AccessBellFix (Optional)

Copy one line of code into your site so you can apply fixes you approve, such as missing alt text, without editing your site. Select Validate connection to check it is installed, or Set up later to skip. See Install AccessBellFix.

4. Accessibility Statement (Optional)

Answer a few questions and AccessBell writes your accessibility statement: organization type, company name, contact details, related policies and any notes. You get a hosted link and the HTML to publish on your own site. See Create your accessibility statement.

Select Pages and Scan

Back on Your Domains, the new domain shows Pending scan and a Select pages & Scan button. Select it to open Found Pages, choose up to 500 pages and select Start Scan. See Find and monitor pages and Run your first scan.
