Accessibility on Teachable
Teachable is a platform for selling online courses, coaching and digital downloads. A school has public pages, such as the home page, course sales pages and the checkout, and a student area with the course player, lessons, quizzes and certificates.
A scan can test the public pages, which is where a customer first meets your school. The lessons are a different job: video needs captions and transcripts, downloads need to be accessible documents, and quizzes need to work with a keyboard, none of which a page scan can judge for you.
Common Accessibility Issues on Teachable Sites
Sales pages built with images of text
Headlines, benefits and pricing set in graphics are invisible to screen readers and cannot be resized.
Video lessons without captions or transcripts
Lesson videos need accurate captions and ideally a transcript. Automatic captions are a start, but they must be reviewed.
Downloads in inaccessible PDFs
Workbooks, slides and templates exported as untagged or scanned PDFs cannot be read by screen readers. Test them with our free PDF accessibility checker.
Low contrast and fine print
Brand colors on buttons, light gray guarantees and small print often fail the contrast minimum.
Enrollment and checkout forms
Sign-up and payment forms with placeholder-only fields, unclear errors and countdown timers that rush the buyer.
How AccessBell Scans Your Teachable Site
- Enter any public page. Paste the address of a page on your Teachable site into the scanner above. There is nothing to install: no plugin, no code snippet and no login.
- We load it in a real browser. AccessBell opens the page in headless Chrome and runs its scripts, so it tests what your visitors actually see, including content added by your theme, apps or plugins.
- We run the WCAG rules. The open-source axe-core engine checks the page against the standard you choose, and every result is mapped to the WCAG success criteria it affects.
- You see what is wrong in seconds. The free scan lists every issue it finds, ranked by severity, with the WCAG criteria each one fails. Start a free trial to get the failing code and the fix for each one. Our methodology explains exactly what runs and what still needs a person.

How to Fix What the Scan Finds
- Put your headlines and pricing in real text, and keep images for illustration with a description.
- Review and correct captions on every lesson video before you publish, and offer a transcript alongside.
- Export downloads from an accessible source with tags turned on, and run each one through a PDF check before you attach it.
- Run a free scan above on your homepage and a few key pages, fix issues starting with critical and serious, then rescan to confirm.
- For ongoing protection, AccessBell Pro monitors up to 500 URLs per domain every day and alerts you when a theme, app or plugin update introduces a new issue.

Teachable Accessibility — Frequently Asked Questions
Do online courses need to be accessible?
Courses sold to the public are part of your business’s online offering, and accessibility laws and lawsuits focus on public websites and services. Accessible courses also reach more customers.
Can the scanner check my lesson videos?
No. A page scan tests the page code. Check captions and transcripts yourself, and test downloads with the free PDF accessibility checker. Student-only pages need a login, so scan your public school and sales pages.
Does AccessBell work with Teachable?
Yes. AccessBell scans any public page in a real browser, so there is nothing to install in Teachable.
