What is an accessibility statement?
A public page that explains the accessibility standard your website aims for, how well it meets that standard, and how people can report barriers. It shows visitors, including people with disabilities, that you take accessibility seriously and gives them a way to reach you.
Is an accessibility statement required by law?
In some places, yes. Public sector bodies in the EU and UK must publish one, and the European Accessibility Act requires information about how products and services meet accessibility requirements. In the United States it is not required by the ADA, but it is widely recommended and often part of settlement agreements.
Does publishing a statement make my website compliant?
No. A statement describes your accessibility work; it does not replace it. Only choose "My website is accessible" if you have tested your site against the standard. If you are still fixing issues, say so. An honest statement builds more trust than an inaccurate one.
Where should I put my accessibility statement?
On its own page, for example /accessibility, linked from your site footer on every page so it is easy to find. Keep the contact details current and update the date whenever you review it.
