UserWay vs AccessBell

UserWay vs. AccessBell

UserWay sells an AI-powered accessibility widget that adjusts pages in the visitor’s browser, with a free version and paid plans that add monitoring of a set number of pages and an accessibility statement. Level Access completed its acquisition of UserWay in March 2024, and UserWay continues as its own brand. AccessBell is not a widget: it tests your pages, shows the code fix and records your work.

The short version: UserWay is an AI widget that changes pages in the browser, with monitoring of a limited number of pages on paid plans. AccessBell fixes issues at the source, monitors up to 500 URLs per domain daily and keeps dated evidence.

Why Teams Choose AccessBell Over UserWay

  • Pages monitored

UserWay’s paid plans, as listed on Capterra, monitor 10 to 100 pages. AccessBell monitors up to 500 URLs per domain every day.

  • Widget vs code

A widget changes what the visitor’s browser shows but leaves your code as it was. AccessBell shows the failing code and a corrected example, so the fix holds for every visitor and every tool.

  • Evidence

AccessBell’s Compliance Vault records every scan and confirmed fix and exports an evidence package you can share with a lawyer or auditor.

The Bloomsybox Lawsuit

In July 2024, Bloomsybox.com LLC filed a class action against UserWay (opens in a new tab). According to reporting on the case, Bloomsybox bought UserWay’s widget as a solution for ADA and WCAG 2.1 compliance with up to $1 million in legal support, was sued for accessibility about six months later, and alleges the support it received did not match what was promised. A magistrate judge recommended that the central claims proceed, rejecting UserWay’s motion to dismiss (Law Office of Lainey Feingold (opens in a new tab)). The case is a claim, not a finding.
